The medium-sized enterprises that gain

A research – carried out by Mediobanca and Unioncamere – that examined the balances of 1826 medium-sized enterprises of the manifacture sector with seats in Liguria, Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta, that represent 15% of the total value of the manifacture production, percentage that reaches 26% considering the North-West.

Here is what has emerged: after having registered the minimum in 2003 (1,2% of the turnover), the profits of the North-West medium-sized enterprises returned increasing, in 2007,  the highest value of the decade (2.3% of the turnover). In the same year entered the medium-sized size 104 North-West companies, while 21 have become large. Interesting the growth mode, mainly for domestic routes: the aggregation operations affect each year only 0.7% of companies. The return on invested capital in medium-sized-sized enterprises was 12.2%, against 12.9% of the major Italian groups. The 3 / 5 of the medium-sized enterprises of this slice of Italy operate within the districts, and these have a strong propensity to export: 45% (compared to 35% of firms located in other areas).
