Banks cautious on lending to SMEs

According to the Observatory on the credit carried out by Confcommercio in collaboration with Format Market Research, in the first quarter of 2010 the businesses struggling to meet their financial needs decrease (14% versus 16% of the previous quarter) and increase those capable to independently manage this demand (over 60% compared to just over 50%). Regarding access to credit, however, a tightening of banks in granting loans is seen. In fact businesses that have been given the exposure required are decreasing (55.5% compared to almost 63% in the previous survey) and the number of companies that were granted the request for funding but with a smaller amount than the required one are increasing (9% vs. 6%).
